The short answer

A simple and complete way to visit the Herculaneum Excavations

What does this guided tour of Herculaneum include?

The experience includes a shared tour of approximately 2 hours, a licensed English-speaking tour guide, and the entrance ticket to the Herculaneum Archaeological Park. At the end of the tour you can remain on site and continue the visit independently until closing time.

Why choose Herculaneum

A Roman city surprisingly close to everyday life

Ancient Herculaneum stood on a plateau between the sea and Vesuvius. More compact than Pompeii, it had an urban area of approximately 20 hectares and an estimated population of around 4,000 inhabitants.

The eruption of 79 AD covered the city with volcanic materials that aided the preservation of buildings, upper floors, carbonized wood, furnishings, food, and everyday objects. For this reason a visit to Herculaneum allows you to observe aspects of Roman life rarely preserved elsewhere.

  • Historical context explained clearly and engagingly.
  • Architectural and decorative details difficult to notice on your own.
  • Compact tour, suitable for those wishing to explore the site in approximately 2 hours.
